Decent looking Ping G20 Driver

The Ping G20 Driver is designed for all ability levels. External weighting helps launch the forgiving G20 driver with a high, low spinning ball flight for maximum distance and accuracy.
PING’s proprietary high-balance-point TFC 169D shaft creates a higher MOI and generates faster ball speeds enabling golfers to swing a clubhead with more mass at the same speed, for longer, straighter drives. The Ping G20 is a 460cc clubhead made from Ti 8-1-1, a lower-density, lighter alloy material. It’s high strength-to-weight ratio increases the MOI and allows additional weight to be strategically placed on the head. Large, variable-thickness in the Ping G20 Driver’s face increases MOI across the hitting surface and generates faster ball speeds for increased forgiveness and power.
As a general rule PINGs aren’t the prettiest-looking clubs, but looks aren’t everything. Although it helps to have a driver that has an appearance that inspires confidence while you’re standing over the ball, high-level performance is even more important. And the PING G20 driver delivers that kind of performance. In fact, it’s built to deliver a nice blend of forgiveness and power. Along the way, it also manages to have some reasonably-decent looks.
The Ping G20 driver has a slightly wider face than the G15 and at address the head appears bigger, although not quite as large as the K15. This is achieved by a shallower crown and also visually by a lighter metallic silver finish. It’s interesting that Ping have moved away from black to something slightly lighter. It does look very good but is a little more reflective in bright conditions when compared to the previous black colour.
The size and shape of the longer head look much better than the G15 and the sound and feel at impact were excellent and the ball took off on a slightly higher but more penetrating trajectory than the G15. The G20 driver also comes with Ping’s own TFC 169D shaft that seems a little more stable than in the past thanks to the higher kick point and feels quite powerful. There is also a Tour version of the shaft that will give you a lower trajectory and this will be excellent for those with higher swing speeds, so make sure you get custom fitted as the combination of shaft and loft will be important.

Ping G20 Driver VS Ping G20 Irons

I hit the Ping G20 today and was really surprised by it.  It has a fairly square look at address, which took some getting used to, being a Titleist guy.

Ping’s newest irons–Ping G20 irons are designed to make mis-hits more playable and provide more distance. It showcases the same head profiles, sole thicknesses, lofts and shaft lengths as G15, along with several new features that aid feel, forgiveness and distance.

Ping engineers, for example, strengthened the “Custom Tuning Port” (CTP) in the rear cavity. The reinforced CTP combines with an elastomer badge to reduce face vibration and dampen shock. The thinner, lighter face allows four grams to be shifted more rearward in the head. The payoff should be more playable misses, a higher ball flight and slightly more carry with the long irons.

Ping’s newest driver–Ping G20 Driver has hit the tour and Golf Magazine’s Rob Sauerhaft says the G20 should provide more carry and roll than its predecessors. It has a heavier head than G15 (7 grams more than standard) for greater force at impact. Additional backweighting and a more elongated face shore up misses.

The reconfigured clubhead — 5 percent higher moment of inertia on heel or toe hits — combines with a light, 45.75-inch “high-balance point” shaft (TFC 169D or TFC 169D Tour) to boost clubhead speed and, thus, distance. Specifically, the TFC 169D shaft has more flexible tip and butt sections for softer feel.

G20 Driver Review

As many golfers know, Ping G15 driver, the last driver of Ping, was launched two years ago, so it is time to release a new-generation product. Recently, the Ping G20 Driver passes the tests of USGA (left hand, right hand, 8.5, 9.5, 10.5, and 12 degree). The USGA publishes an audit list each Monday from which we can have a look at the G20’s beautiful appearance. But today and here, let’s look at its performance first.

    Ping G20 Driver continues the idea of entire design. That is to say, they tried to let the entire clubs match to your swing approaches instead of using the way that single club can only meet the demand of single swing approach. This is not a new concept, but to Ping with advanced technologies and rich design experience, they can utilize this concept well into every detail of the entire G20 club. They provide more flexible trajectories and easy suitability to different clubs, so golfers don’t have to adjust swing approach according to different clubs.

Ping’s G20 Driver further improved the high-balance spot shaft used by its previous G15, through which it can distribute more weights to clubhead while keeping the same entire club weight to offer more hitting strength. The head of previous G15 is 5 grams heavier than that of G10, and the 203-gram G20 Driver head is 2 grams heavier than G15’s. Test indicates that at the same swing speed, distance and forgiveness of heavy clubhead can be enhanced. To prove this result, Ping tested drivers with different weights (270, 286, and 304g) of the same specs. The result shows that the Ping G20 Driver have no obvious difference on head speed and ball speed, but the heavier the club is, the better distance and forgiveness are. Besides, the field test shows that appropriate change in club’s weight will not affect golfers’ swing approach. The standard length of Ping G20 Driver is 45.75 inches (D3) which will not affect swing approach according to test.

    Ping G20 Driver lowers trajectory with its head weights, and adopts Ti811 material instead of previous Ti64. The two materials possess near intensity and elongation, but Ti811 has lighter weight and lower density, allowing Ping to maximize head volume and distribute head weight of each part for optimal center of gravity. The G20 Driver has a flatter head and wider face area than G15. In order to limit the volume in 460cc, Ping decreases the area of toe. The thickness of the entire face is inconsistent. The tests of both swing robot and golfers show that Ping G20 Driver provides more distance than G15, and the accuracy is also higher.

G20 Fairway Wood Description

Larger front to back and heel to toe, the ping g20 fairway wood sets up neutral at address and rotates square at impact.

Ping g20 fairway wood has been launched and promises a higher flight without adding extra spin, resulting in longer shots. Compared to the previous G15 fairway wood, the ping g20 fairway wood features a larger head and face to help ensure high ball speeds across the entire face. Like the Ping G20 driver, the ping g20 fairway wood features an external weight port low and back in the head to produce high launch and low spin. The elongated, low profile design of the g20 fairway wood offers a long, forgiving option for golfers who rely on the confidence of a larger head. The external weight pad on the sole of the stainless steel clubhead places the center of gravity low and farther back to provide higher trajectories and increased distance.

The g20 fairway wood is a little deeper front to back and its face is a little taller than the G15 it replaces, which is a good thing as Ping fairways are generally a little on the shallow side. We like oversized fairways as we think they are more forgiving, especially off the tee, and the g20 fairway wood has hit the mark for us here.

In terms of looks, the g20 fairway wood benefits from the familiar crescent alignment aid on the crown and the muscular size of the head certainly looks appealing at address. You can optimize your ball flight by choosing either the higher-launching TFC 169F shaft or the TFC 169F Tour version for a lower trajectory.
